"I wasn't born in a barn, but I got there as fast as I could."
Sara Griot considers herself lucky on two counts. First because she knew at a fairly young age what she wanted to do when she grew up – to design clothing professionally, and second, because she actually got to do it and succeed.
Born and raised in California, her mom taught her to sew when she was 9 years old. She pursued design as a career after finishing her education in art and design. She soon created her own clothing line under the label “Sara McNamara”. Her line was sold in numerous boutiques across the country as well as in department stores such as Nordstrom, Saks, Garfinckel’s and Macy’s. Her clothing was featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily as well as local publications in Southern California.
Combining a lifetime love of horses and fashion and fueled by the dreams of a horse crazy daughter, O’Shaughnessey was formed. Sara’s equestrian lifestyle line* is sophisticated yet playful with combinations of fine, lightweight European wools and vividly colored linings, created with careful attention to detail. O’Shaughnessey blends tradition and style with a touch of the unexpected.
“I’ve always loved horses...when I’m at the barn with my horse I’m the most relaxed, it’s like therapy for me, the smell of the leather, the tack, the saddles, it’s this common thread with riders - we love our horses – and that’s what keeps us coming back.”
