We love getting updates from our sponsored riders, today Mara DePuy tells us about a new addition to the farm, her time at Fair Hill and more.
Here at Willow Bend, this time of year is always exciting and BUSY! With the end of the season approaching, all of the horses are feeling very fit and quite full of themselves. We have an exciting new addition in Coolcorren Kinsale, a 10 year old Irish horse. “Liam” as he is known around the barn, had competed for several season at the Novice level in Ireland with an amateur rider. He has proven to be a great ride to the jumps, and his flat work is improving every day. I think he will be a real contender for the future, and am working hard on syndicating this promising competitor. Alan (Alimit) is jumping really well and was ready to conquer his first CCI** at Fair Hill International last week. I had the absolute pleasure of riding Colleen Rutledge’s young horse Roulette in the 5 year old Young Event Horse Championships at Fair Hill as well. I hope Colleen is ready to take the reins back soon but am thrilled to have the ride on such a nice horse while she is on the mend! Congo, Liam and Escot are aimed at Virginia Horse Trials. Congo will be making the big move up to Preliminary while Liam and Escot are entered in the CCI*.
Back at Willow Bend I have several nice horses coming in for training and tune-ups in the next few weeks, and Mac is trucking nicely along in his fitness regime. The riders here in Virginia have been benefiting from regular clinics with Phillip Dutton at Willow Bend. It’s very nice to be able to ride several horses under expert eyes! We’ve also been trucking over to the beautiful High Acre Farm to ride with David O’Connor when he is in town to keep my flatwork sharp and competitive. With a whole barn full of nice horses and the CCI’s fast upon us, I can’t help but feel very thankful to have such great supporters and talented horses.
